BFA Show: Fossil
I once read a scientific article that investigated the impact and benefits of speaking to plants. The results were astonishing, the plant that received kind words lived longer than the one that did not receive the same treatment. - The findings of this research made me reflect on how
the need for caring words for not only plants but also humans is indeed essential. Fascinated by this experiment I embarked on my own mission to recreate the research and bought plants. The experiment failed and after a few days, my plants died. As I was mourning the loss of my plants, I recalled a quote from my favorite artist, Frida Kahlo: “I paint flowers so they will not die.” Kahlo’s words inspired my current work and instead of purchasing more plants, I decided to follow Kahlo’s advice and created my own garden utilizing not paint but my own practices. I began modeling, 3D Printing, and programming these robotic plants to move exactly as real plants would. If plants were digital, they would not die anymore. Much of my work consists of the use of technology to speak to environmentally, politically, and culturally issues in our society. The reality is that I may not have been killing a plant in front of me anymore, but our consumption and use of plastic are killing our whole environment. In this exhibit, I will be focusing on our current environmental crisis. Fossils are the remains or impressions of prehistoric organisms preserved in petrified forms such as molds or casts in rock. When thinking about the future of our environment, I often come to the idea of how plants may be preserved as prehistoric items in the future. On the walls, you will see I decided to create my own fossils of plants impressed on the acrylic using a laser cutter to raster the impression. I decided to use acrylic because I think that is what we are leaving as remains and it is also the very thing hurting our environment. Fossil fuels formed on our earth’s crust and are produced from the decomposition of buried dead organisms millions of years ago. Coal, Oil, and natural gas all produce energy when burned. Today fossil fuels power modern-day society for commercial manufacturing, transportation, and electricity-- which is much of what is currently hurting our environment. In this gallery, I decided to respond by placing an industrial pipe coming out of the wall used as a clothing rack. This rack has clothing hangers, however, attached to them there are not clothes, I have instead attached some of the acrylic fossils I created. Our environmental depletion and change are caused by commercial manufacturing and consumption, which is why I decided to use an industrial pipe. The clothing rack is in response to our modern-day societal consumption that is hurting our environment. I created a 3D animated tree growing. This tree stands alone and is all black because I wanted to remain on the wall of this tree. The animation is meant to be a shadow because sometimes when I look at fossils now, that is all I am left with-- their shadow. The remains and shadows of organisms are all we have today. |

Animation: New BeginningsThis animation was made on Photoshop with different images. The idea behind this was to use symbolism in the lotus flower and represent new beginnings. The Lotus flower grows from a dirty pond and I wanted to emphasize this through the flower and the butterfly.
I was able to make this with the skills learned in Art 74 |

Triptych: A Butterfly's LifeFor this Tryptch I used the same 20 images to create a series of three different images and series. I did this on Photoshop layering images and sizing them, and placing them in different places. I created a tryptch using the Butterfly's stages to turn into a actual flying Butterfly. I also use the the stop light to represent the speed of each stage in the tryptch

Timelapse: StarbucksThis is a video taken of two hours with different angles of starbucks in the morning. I wanted to capture the flow of people in the morning to get coffee on a college campus and found it to be a lot of flow in the morning. This was also made on Adobe After Effects and I added a ghost effect to leave a trail behing each person moving.

Cloning & Green ScreenI made a video by video taping myself doing different things in my room. Each of them were different video that I was bale to put together oon Adobe After Effects. I to wanted to clone myself and create the many things I do all in one. I also incorportated a Green Screen of myself. I was able to make this using the skill I learned in Art 75

Vlog #6: Learning YogaIn Art 75 I made a series of videos of my process learning Yoga, something I had never done before. This was one of my Vlogs as I became more familiar with Yoga. I decided to show my process and decsicribed what I had acomplished through a voice over. I used Adobe Premiere to create this

Rose waterIn this Video I showed how to make Rose Water with a series of videos in different angles. I was able to clip together key elements that allowed the Video to still demonstate how to make Rose Water. I did this using the skills learned in Art 75 in Adobe Premiere
